This department has the first Immunohistochemistry Laboratory in the region.  At this department very precise diagnostic tests may be carried out not only for cancer studies but for infectious diseases, metabolic, immunologic and genetic conditions, among others.  The services offered are:

• Sample taking and interpretation of Pap smears (Cervical vaginal cytology)
• Bodily fluid and secretion cytology
• Puncture biopsy and aspiration sample taking and interpretation guided by ultrasonography and CT scan
• Biopsy microscopic analysis
• Tissue, organ and tumor analysis
• Transoperatory studies (macro and microscopic tissue analysis)
• Oncogene analysis for cancer diagnosis and study
• Detection and typification of Human Papilloma Virus in biopsies and cervical-uterine cytology samples
